DESIGNING NOSTALGIA

Every morning, children climb into classrooms that take over the site based on a hierarchy of needs that range from primal to intellectual. Lower grades start at the ground floor to inspire looking up and ensure a solid, secure foundation. Higher grades look down and back into the school to inspire humility. Both together inspire a sense of place and responsibility. Circulation is entirely accessible and employs rhythmic elements such as sprawling ramps, tactile materials, and interactive apertures that invite magic light. The goal is to create a place that checks in on its inhabitants to inspire self-awareness, purpose, confidence, a whole lot of fun, and hopefully humans that are better at being human.
