BURIED IN LIGHT
From afar, visitors spot a mysterious mass emerging from what eventually is revealed as the fault line between two continents. A one level, rectangular Visitors Center is wrapped in a monstrous, cavernous, luminous envelope. Drawn to it by the glowing translucency in dialogue with the Northern Lights, they discover what looks to be a sprawling, climbable system of ramps that escalate into the sky and allow for a better view of the surrounding landscape. At one point, visitors are suspended in the air above the fault line, hovering between two land masses, both above and below, allowing for an all encompassing experience of the Grjótagjá cave discovery. The position of the Visitors Center on the land shields the smaller bathing caves from the onslaught of tourists. It is only accessible through the interior of the building and past a ticket counter, allowing for a more private and magical experience of the Kvennagjá caves.
